Acceptance by Honey Bees of Wax Decontaminated through an Extraction Process with Methanol

چکیده

Honey bees face serious threats. These include the presence of Varroa destructor mite in hives, which requires use acaricides to control. The constant recycling old wax exacerbates problem, and results accumulation residues beeswax, is a problem for viability colony. same happens with phytosanitary residues. In previous study, we implemented an efficient decontamination method using batch methanol extraction method. present study evaluates acceptance decontaminated by comb building, brood, honey pollen containment. show slight delay start building small changes were observed pharmacopoeia compared original commercial wax. could be due loss some components, such as residues, usually appear addition bee-attractive substances manufacturing process help mitigate delay. suggest that good alternative reduce concentration hives.

The death of honey bees and environmental pollution by pesticides: the honey bees as biological indicators

The monitoring of pesticides with honey bees, which has been carried out by our group since the beginning of the 1980’s, is an extremely important technique not only for proving potential bee poisoning risks by the use of pesticides, but also for determining the degree of environmental contamination due to plant protection products. In fact, because of its morphological and ethological features...

Comb wax mediates the acquisition of nest-mate recognition cues in honey bees.

Honey bees, Apis mellifera, acquire nest-mate recognition cues from wax, the predominant material used in nest construction. Exposure of a newly emerged worker bee to wax-comb substrate significantly reduced the acceptability of that worker to sister bees. Cues acquired from the comb provided colony-specific information about the identity of worker bees; moreover, the effect of comb exposure ha...

Mass envenomations by honey bees and wasps.

Stinging events involving honey bees and wasps are rare; most deaths or clinically important incidents involve very few stings (< 10) and anaphylactic shock. However, mass stinging events can prove life-threatening via the toxic action of the venom when injected in large amounts. With the advent of the Africanized honey bee in the southwestern United States and its potential for further spread,...

BEES WAX POLYPHENOLS AS SUPPRESSOR OF CCl

Bee’s wax produced by honeybees is rich in polyphenols. As the polyphenols are thought to protect cell constituents against oxidative damage through scavenging of free radicals , the present work was undertaken to evaluate the effects of polyphenols extracted from bees wax on the oxidative s t ress induced by carbon te t rachlor ide (CCl 4 ) in ra t s . The polyphenols extracted by 80% methanol...
